Membership
has its privilege, so says the expression and that privilege was extended to
twenty-four dynamic, determined and progressive women at Prairie View A&M
University, when they were inducted into the 100 Collegiate Women of America on
November 11. This day changed their lives forever because now they are
part of a cadre of women who are on the move, engaging, educating, empowering
and inspiring others to greatness.
The
induction was a joint event with the Collegiate 100 which also inducted
twenty-four young men.
These women come from varied background, experiences, talent, skills, locales and academic classifications that will enhance the organization as a whole. They hold membership in several organizations on the campus toinclude the PVAMU Pre-Alumni Association, Panther Advisory Leaders, Student Government Association, University Ambassadors, and major organizations in agriculture, biology, business, communications, education, engineering, political science and juvenile justice and nursing.
The
new members are: Bisola Aboderin, Tarynn Adams, Alajasia Apponey, Myah
Armstrong, Armani Callihan, Dominique Clark, Skye Cotton, Benicia Curtis,
Chelsea Daly, Candice Garner, Alexandria Hall, Erial Henderson, Celia Hinkson,
Elizabeth Johnican, Sharay Johnson, Chloe Louis, Kerryea Martinez, Chape’ll
Moore, Ugonna Okpala, Markita Richardson, Gabrielle Scott, Sheri Walls, Davida
Wells and Writney Williams.
The ladies and the men were formally pinned on November 16 at the 2013 Black Tie Scholarship and Awards Gala, hosted with the Collegiate 100 men.

The
young ladies join a cadre of women who are committed to making an impact on the
community and not an impression for the masses.
The
organizations have provided tremendous programs and activities at the have influenced
the communities at large. Its mentoring programs at Arnold Middle School
and Navasota Schools are credited with helping to change lives of many young
people. The ladies breast cancer awareness and visits and support of
seniors at the Brenham Nursing home is highly appreciated and rewarding.
The
100 Collegiate members are gearing up for the spring 2014 when it is poised to
engage in a national campaign of expansion to colleges and universities around
the country. Additionally the organization looks to collaborating with national
programs to inspire and empower young women and public service, such as
"Support for Military Families and Veterans, a national program of First
Lady Michelle Obama and Mrs. Jill Biden, "Girls Empowerment" by Oprah
Winfrey and the Girls Scout of America. Currently, the organization works
and supports the National Empowerment for Girls of Houston, Texas where they
meet with high school girls every second and fourth Saturdays. The ladies also
plan on creating a mentoring program for girls at Arnold Middle School in
Cypress, Texas.

About 100 Collegiate Women of
America: The
100 Collegiate Women of America was created as counterpart of the Collegiate
100 in August of 2011 by Frederick V. Roberts and chartered as a university
organization in October 2011. Dymonique Burton and Travis Reed served were part
of the nucleus in starting the organization and fostering a relationship with
the Collegiate 100. The organization first president is Elexia
Robinson-White, a junior education major from Desoto, Texas. The advisors
include: Mrs. Johnie Walker, Dr. DeLinda Marzette and Mrs. Shadia Washington.
