Ashley Mills to Lead 100 Collegiate Women of America at PVAMU

When Ashley Mills was growing up in Grand Prairie and attending James Bowie High School in Arlington, Texas, everyone knew she was destined to be a star.  Well Ashley is letting her star shine brightly with the title of president of the 100 Collegiate Women of America, Inc. at Prairie View A&M University for 2014-15.  She previously served as treasurer and historian from 2011-2014.

Mills is charter member of the 100 Collegiate Women which was created at the university in August 2011 by Frederick V. Roberts and Dymonique Burton and Travis Reed of the Collegiate 100, with a mission to increase and provide opportunities to empower and improve the quality of life for women at the university and to influence leadership development at all levels of society.

The 100 Collegiate Women is open to college and professional women who are progressive in their thoughts and actions, and committed and dedicated to the cause of all humanity.  The 100 Collegiate focuses on empowering its membership first and then equip them to bring others forward!

Ashley is the 22 year old daughter of Louis and Alvernia Mills of Grand Prairie, Texas.   Ashley is a 2010 graduate of James Bowie High School in Arlington, Texas.

While at Bowie, Mills was a member of the Volley Ball team and the Student Council.  It stands to reason that her ascending to the presidency of the organization is a manifestation her development, communication and leadership skills gained at Bowie.

Ashley is a senior management major and upon receipt of her BBA degree, she plans on earning her MBA with a concentration in Management Information Systems, and to pursue a career with the federal government.

Mills’ other organization involvement includes the Frederick Douglass Leadership Institute and the Collegiate Scholars, and dual membership in the Collegiate 100, also created by Frederick V. Roberts in 1993.  She enjoys volunteering and is a Career Services Ambassador and her hobbies include cooking, bowling, reading and photography.

Ashley credits the 100 Collegiate Women for honing and enhancing her leadership and communications skills, networking opportunities and for providing a sisterhood and bonds that will last a lifetime.

Mills eagerly looks forward to a very progressive presidency and expects the membership to take the organization to greater heights and to continue focus on programs geared towards empowering and educating women and the community, as well as connecting with students.  Some of the planned activities include a Women’s Leadership Transformation Workshop, Networking with the 100 Women, The 100 Soirée’ and Fashion Impact, Walk in their Shoes Tribute to Women Leaders and Vision 2016:  Women Are Fired UP!

Other officers for 2014-15 are Vice President, Dominique Clark, Vice President for Programs, Kerryea Martinez, Treasurer, Markita Richardson, Secretary, Chloe Louis, Communications Director, Myah Armstrong, Membership Director, Candice Garner, Historian, Writney Williams, Marketing Director, Lauren Bosman, Auditor, Candice Garner, Parliamentarian, Davida Wells and Sergeant at arms, Armani Callihan.
